Men’s Pelvic Health Coaching
Men have pelvic floors, too!
As a society, we are just barely starting to talk about women’s pelvic health issues, but men can absolutely benefit from care too.
When you are dealing with something as specific and impactful as care for “down there” you want to work with someone who knows what they are talking about.
While there is a lot of overlap between men’s and women’s pelvic health, our anatomy and function are also unique. I think you deserve to work with someone who understands the nuance and can give you targeted care so that you can move beyond your symptoms and have the confidence to live your life.
I have done extensive training specifically in men’s pelvic health and will work with you in a non-judgmental, caring way to tackle your symptoms and provide you tools to get back to the things that are important to you.
There are answers besides medication, surgery, or just dealing with it!
Nobody wants to have to see a men’s health specialist, but I try to make it as comfortable as possible and get you back to your life as fast as I can!

Frequently Asked Questions About Men’s Pelvic Health Coaching
-
Men’s health coaching is a service to support men who are having issues with pelvic-region issues, which may be occurring for a myriad of reasons. Coaching includes science-backed exercise direction, program development and management, education, and lifestyle modification suggestions. Virtual coaching allows me to improve your access to care from someone who truly gets it without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Nope! I want there to be as few barriers as possible to care. I am more than happy to collaborate with any other providers you are seeing, but an “order” isn’t necessary; I think you can make your own grown up decisions about who you want to see and how. If I do think there is something concerning that requires another look from a medical provider, I will be the first to let you know.
-
No, that will never be needed or suggested. I will use models for demonstration, lots of imagery and cueing to help teach the skills I am trying to get across. There is plenty of information to be gleaned from observing fully-clothed, general movements and through conversation.

Your initial evaluation starts even before we meet live. You’ll get comprehensive paperwork to complete prior to your appointment so that I can begin to get a picture of what you may be needing and plan a tailored evaluation. Then, on your first visit, we like to hear your story and chat about anything that is too hard to capture in the paperwork alone. From there, I may watch you complete movements or give you further assessments to continue gathering information. We will then work together build a plan of care to get your symptoms to go away and stay away!

Your treatment is always individualized to your specific needs as I do not believe in a cookie-cutter approach! Often, treatment will include a combination of education, lifestyle modifications, and/or exercises that will target your specific issues. Each of our sessions is about an hour long, and within that time we check in to see how you are doing or if there is anything specific you want to discuss, complete the actually interventions that we have planned for that day, and then make sure you are clear in what to be doing between appointments.

1000%! We believe it is never too early or too late to start taking care of your pelvic health. Occasionally there are a few more layers to peel back if your symptoms have been going on a long time, but I have seen people at all ages and stages feel better from things they thought just had to be their new normal.

YES! Physicians are often looking for more medical issues such as infections or anatomical issues that require medication or procedures to help. As a coach trained as a Doctor of Physical Therapy on the other hand, I’m an expert on nerves, muscles, and the actual function of your body. I take a different approach to both assessment and treatment and often can find plenty of things to address that will help you reach your goals. So if you’ve been told “there is nothing wrong,” know that you have been cleared for more medical issues and now we can get to work on whatever is causing your problems. I believe you. I know you’re not making it up. You just need to find the right type of provider who can actually address what is causing your concerns.

I sure think so! The reality is that every pelvic floor therapist or coach has different levels of training and a different lens in which they assess and treat. There aren’t very many pelvic floor therapists who niche into men’s health, let alone male providers. Plus, in different systems, they may not have the time to dive as thoroughly into your case or put in the effort necessary to truly understand what is going on. I really appreciate when people care about their own health enough to give it another try when they have had a less than successful outcome with someone else, and it is so rewarding when they see the results they deserve!

I totally get that you want to know this and wish that it was a simple answer. Because the factors that could be impacting your condition are different for everyone, even people with the same diagnosis, we don’t know until we start working together. Things such as how long you’ve been having a problem, your medical history, your daily habits, how much you can devote to your journey, etc. can all play a part. What I do know is that you should be seeing some positive change within the first 3-5 visits. Then, I will continue to work with you until your symptoms are not only gone but you have the tools to keep them away for good!
-
I almost always give you things to work on at home, but what that looks like will vary based on the person. If you are already overloaded with your life to the point that having one more thing to do feels impossible, we may just lean into how to make the things you’re already doing just a little bit better for your body. Maybe we help you figure out how to sneak in a few healthy habits in your schedule. Or maybe you are ready to build in a new exercise routine and want guidance in how best to do that. The bottom line is that what you do outside of our visits matters so we will be talking about things to implement on your own, but I am going to meet you where you are to make sure it is sustainable and not just another stressor. It will only work if it works for YOU!

It depends. Even as someone who has seen clients in-person for years, I can confidently say that most of the interventions that make the biggest impact can be done virtually. Therefore, having someone who understands the nitty gritty of men’s health and can guide you on that is more meaningful to me than someone who can physically put their hands on you. That being said, I will always be screening for issues that may need a closer look or manual therapy approach and will gladly refer you to someone in your local region if I think that is going to get you better results than what we can do together online.
