Prostatectomy Recovery
You’ve made it through the surgery, now you deserve to get back to your FULL life
Your surgeon addressed the cancer, but who is helping to guide you?
In this 6-week, virtual group class, you’ll be guided through different aspects of recovery with a group of men who are right there with you.
With a small group of 10 or less, we will explore all the topics that are important to a full, rich life but that nobody may be bringing up.
Nothing is off limits here, just a safe space to get practical, share stories, and get answers to all of the questions you may be too afraid to ask.
Each week we will be diving into a new subject, but with time built in to explore anything that is coming up in your own post-op journey, share wins, and problem-solve any challenges you may experience along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Prostate Surgery Recovery Program

Men’s health coaching is a service to support men who are having issues with pelvic-region issues, which may be occurring for a myriad of reasons. Coaching includes science-backed exercise direction, program development and management, education, and lifestyle modification suggestions.

As men, we already tend to isolate ourselves plenty. I find that the more we come together, hear from each other, and be able to see each other progress and struggle the better we get. We don’t have to hold hands and sing “Kumbaya,” but we can share stories, hear other’s questions, etc. so that we get a more rich experience overall.
-
Nope! We want there to be as few barriers as possible to care. We are more than happy to collaborate with any other providers you are seeing, but an “order” isn’t necessary; we think you can make your own grown up decisions about who you want to see and how. If we do think there is something concerning that requires another look from a medical provider, we will also be the first to let you know.
-
Anything between 0-4 weeks would be great to start. While we’d love to be a resource from the early days of recovery, if you’ve already watched the pre-op content, you should have some foundational information to get you started in the first few weeks. It is likely that the group will be mixed in rehab stages by a few weeks intentionally, since it can also be helpful to share different parts of the journey to help each other out. If timing works better to start just prior to your surgery, you can still glean a lot from the group to help you navigate the post-op period too.
-
I am a big fan of the physicians and surgeons who are able to help you with your cancer treatment. But the reality is that they specialize in the medical treatments and do not have nearly as much knowledge about the exercises and strategies to get you back to full function after their work. They may truly think kegels are the only tool, but I can guarantee you, to get the best results we need to be looking much more broadly. Plus, the community aspect of being with a group of other men who are going through a similar ride holds some special sauce too.
-
Probably not (just being honest here), but you will know what you are doing to reach those goals. The coursework is designed to get you started, set you on the right path, and give you the tools to keep walking the path until you reach your full potential. If additional help or support is needed beyond that, one-on-one coaching can be beneficial to dive deeper.
-
No, that will never be needed or suggested. I will use models for demonstration, lots of imagery and cuing to help teach the skills I am trying to get across. There is plenty of information to be gleaned from observing fully-clothed, general movements and through conversation.
-
That is up to you, but I can also help you make informed decisions since I have and continue to see men in person for pelvic floor physical therapy when needed. In my experience, most men see substantial relief from their symptoms with what will be covered in this course alone, but if hands-on work or even more specific care is needed, I’ll be the first to steer you in that direction.
